NetConsole/Timesheet FAQ's - Security
- Q. Can you tell me what kind of security features are employed by
NetConsole/Timesheet ?
A. Our NetConsole/Timesheet uses employee's "Group Privileges" for the security
access control and navigation system, which served as basis to define "Who Gets to
See What" and "Who Gets to Do What".
First, you define Users and Groups, and assign users to groups. Then you assign Groups
to different business components, such as Module and Functions on the top two
menu bars. Depending on which group(s) you have been assigned to, you
will see and use only the modules and functions according to that group's
privileges. These kinds of groups are called "Navigation Groups", they govern
the access to the menu items. The other type of Groups in NetConsole is called
"Project Groups" which will control the access to various Projects and Tasks.
The security is tied down to the web page level. All of these
security access controls and the navigation system use single login to
authenticate the user's group privileges, which can be managed by system
administrator account (or designated users) using web interfaces in NetConsole/Timesheet's
SysAdmin module.
This "Group Privileges" security control is
on top of the NT/Win2000/Win2003 file and directory security.
You can still use
Windows directory security features to challenge user's Network login accounts.
- Q. Can we use SSL certificates with NetConsole/Timesheet ?
A.Yes, you can simply install SSL (Secured Socket Layer) certificates in Web server
for NetConsole site. NetConsole/Timesheet is fully tested and integrated with SSL certificates.
Our Subscription services host our customer's NetConsole/Timesheet sites on SSL-enabled
servers.
- Q. We are a small compay, the group-based security is probably more advanced than we need.
Is it possible to use a default access control ?
A.Yes, the Group access control is designed to help you define different
Groups (and thus, Users) to get access to different areas in the application. It is ideal
if you want to restrict different department/project users to certain areas in the system.
However, NetConsole comes with several default groups (Employee Group, Supervisors Group,
Payroll Group, Billing Group and System Admin Group), which you can simply assign your employees
to one or more of these groups, based on their different roles.
